Blog Post # 7
The story " We can Remember it for you Wholesale" was a great story. It had a lot of twists and turns and you could never really determine what was true or not. The concept of having artificial memories plated in our minds is a crazy thing to think about. It could be possible one day but I think it a horrible idea. We would never know what was real or fake ever again. I go crazy trying to figure out if an experience I think I had actually happened was a dream or real so I could no imagine having a fake memory put in my head of something that never happened. I also don't like the fact that this technique is being used to deceive others as well. Even though the person with the fake memory is not aware that they are lying the people around them are being given actual planted proof of what the other thinks they did. I wouldn't want to live in a place where everyone is saying they did things they didn't actually do. As horrible of an idea that this is it is also very cool. Being able to have memories of something that I know I would never be able to do is a new way to experience joy in life. It is true that as we get older we lose memories of things we experienced and its almost like it never happened. Having fake memories implanted would be basically the same thing. We wouldn't remember actually participating in this particular even just the memories that we take from it. Being able to actually believe I went to mars would be cool but at the end of the day nothing beats true life experiences and the feeling of actually being somewhere.

I couldn't imagine having to think if my life was real or not on a daily basis either. Even if we wouldn't know whats real from fake, implanting fake memories just seems completely wrong. If we could use it for good use then others can use it for bad just like in the stories. Plus, its not the same when you actually did something and actually experiecning something rather than just thinkng you did. Vacations wouldn't even be the same because the bonding between family and friends are all a lie. Everyone would have a different experience than others rather than having the same memories that a real experience would provide. It might seem like an awesome idea to make all your dreams come true but like you said, nothing beats reality.
